PRESS RELEASE
The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) is proud to announce a new project supported by the Embassy of Canada’s Fund for Local Initiatives. The project, led by the Documentation Center of Cambodia’s Prey Veng and Takeo Documentation Centers, which are among 19 DC-Cam’s provincial documentation centers, aims to foster a culture of democracy, civic service, and good governance by empowering Cambodian youth through volunteerism and intergenerational dialogue.
At a time when Cambodian youth face growing challenges in adapting to regional changes, this initiative comes at a critical moment. It seeks to strengthen their understanding of democratic values and governance principles, while equipping them with essential soft skills and a deeper connection to Cambodia’s historical legacy and stories of Khmer Rouge survivors.
“Canada is proud to support DC-Cam’s efforts to empower Cambodian youth as agents of democratic change and civic responsibility. This initiative reflects our shared commitment to inclusive governance, historical awareness, and community resilience.” David Verbiwski, Chargé d’affaires, Embassy of Canada, Phnom Penh

The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) is proud to announce the Embassy of Canada’s support for its youth volunteer leadership programme, CamboCorps. With the generous support of the Embassy of Canada through its Fund for Local Initiatives, DC-Cam will be able to further expand its CamboCorps programme to include additional youth volunteers in remote communities affected by the conflict along the Cambodian-Thailand border.
The CamboCorps programme has two core functions. First, as a community development programme, CamboCorps connects survivors of the Khmer Rouge with local youth who provide assistance to them and their families through basic services, active listening sessions and other resources relevant to their specific needs or interests. The programme also provides a critical opportunity for Cambodian youth to receive professional development, soft skills, and leadership training in the context of community development initiatives.
As volunteers, and thanks to this generous grant, CamboCorps youth will have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership in activities that help their communities and set the example for civic service for the Nation.
